After a year in Del Rio, which is a cross between West Texas and Mexico, we finally came across a local event that is all Texas - a roping derby. Tucked back and away at Hide Away Arena, there was nothing sophisticated about it, just the locals coming together to enjoy the sunshine, BBQ and a chance to show their showmanship on horseback. Infant to senior, everyone was on horseback and everyone could toss a good rope. We had a great time, Mikayla liked the horses and LOVED the practice bulls and came home one tired cowgirl.

Yes, the horse is eating out of the ice chest. |

Don't breathe, you might lose some pulled pork! |

How much BBQ does it take to feed a horse? |

Practically pro! |

"Uh oh, I might be in trouble." |
